Expo 2010 Shanghai impressions

Shanghai City, the most prosperous international metropolis in China,
has won its bid for the Expo 2010. It's a good chance for China to show its achievements in the areas of social construction, science and technology, economy and culture. The Expo as well provides exhibitors all over the world with a large-scale platform from which to communicate their successful experiences and accomplishments. Now, Shanghai Sights has enough confidence to hold a grand exhibition in 2010 which will be attended by more than 200 countries and international organizations and 70000000 tourists.

Time: May 1st-October 31st, 2010Locate: The site is located in the waterfront area between Nanpu Bridge and Lupu Bridge along the two sides of Huangpu River, covering an area of 5.28 square kilometers (about 2.04 square miles). The core area, which is about 3.22 square kilometers (about 1.24 square miles), requires an admission ticket.
 Theme: Better City, Better Life
Five Sub-themes:
1.    Blending of diverse culture in the city;
2.    Economic prosperity in the city;
3.    Innovation of science and technology in the city;
4.    Remodeling of communications in the city;
5.    Rural-urban interaction
Goals through theme content development:
1.    To elevate public awareness of challenges in the 'urban age' and to identify potential solutions;
2.    To facilitate the conservation of the heritage of our cities; to raise public awareness of healthy urban development;
3.    To disseminate concepts, successful practices and innovations in sustainable urban development; to seek models of sustainable urban development for developing counties;
4.    To enhance the communication and understanding within human society.  
 Emblem:The emblem of Expo 2010 shows three people encircling each other, standing for you, me and him/her holding hands together. It expresses the Expo's principle of communication, understanding, gathering and cooperation among all humankind. The major body of the emblem is also the Chinese character 'shi' which is 'world' in English. It means that the Expo 2010 is to be a global expo showing the diversified urban culture in the world.

  Mascot: Haibao
                              


The cute Haibao, the mascot of Expo 2010 Shanghai China, was inspired from the Chinese character '人' - people. It not only well embodies the essence of Chinese people oriented culture but also expresses the designing concept of the emblem of 2010 World Expo again.
Hair: the sea-wave like hair shows that Haibao has active personality, and also indicates the character of its birthplace Shanghai.
                                                        
Face: the friendly cartoon expression of Haibao is full of confidence.
Eye: Haibao's big and round eyes show his expectation to the cities' future.
Blue: stands for rising and potential China, abounding in latitude and imagination
Body: its very cute and round body shows the harmonious and nice life.
Fist: Haibao thumbs up to express his appreciation and sincere welcome to the friends from all over the world.
Big Feet: supported his body firmly, foreshowing that China is able and faithful to host an excellent World Expo.
